De-STRESS after SCHOOL BEGINS!:  Try BASIC YOGA for movement and relaxation. Your body will be introduced to basic asanas which will include breathing, balance & flexibility excercises to release and relax your body.  Class will meet every  Monday Students will go through a variety of individualized yoga postures and easy streatching routines to unwind your body. $10 per studentThree   45 min. classes:

DRIVERS EDUCATION:  Classes start the first Monday of March 2010:  Registration fee: $200

PIANO LESSONS:  Call Jerrene Owens  if you are interested in playing the piano or brushing up on your skills.  Music can be therapeutic and relaxing.  $10 per hr. lessons call:  331-500 for more information



GED INFORMATION:  The Test of General Education Development (GED tests) developed by the General Educational Development Testing Service (GEDTS) of the American Council on Education.  The GED tests are designed to provide an opportunity for adults who have not graduated fron high school to earn a high school level educational diploma.  The GED tests measure the major academic skills and knowledge associated with a high school program of study, with increased emphasis on workplace and higher education.  *BEFORE TESTING YOU MUST SPEND 12 HOURS WITH THE ADULT BASIC ED. CENTER and Complete OPT (Official Practice test scoring 450-500 on each section before you can register for Official GED Testing.
Picture ID required to pre-register for a test.  You must be 18 years or older to test for the GED and not enrolled in school. Candidates must complete a written confirmation of eligibility requirements before testing.  If you are 18 years or over, testing times are scheduled after you have completed registration.
Fee:      $12 for each of the 5 tests in a battery:  $10 retest fee
      Test Limit: You may retest 3 times  in a calendar year 
Language Arts Reading:  65 minutesLanguage Arts Writing:      120 minutes  (includes essay part)
Social Studies:  70 minutesScience:80 minutes
Mathematics:            90 minutes(2 math segments:  one with calculator and one without)
               
AGE WAIVER:    Candidates, 16 or 17 years old, must not be enrolled in school to apply for an age waiver.  16 & 17 year olds must contact the ABE (Adult Basic Education) Center and will be required to take the TABE (Test of Adult Basic Eduction) test and complete 12 hours of study with the GED instructor.  Successfully complete GED practice tests with a 500 average before an age waiver application will be completed and filed with the state.  For further information on this process contact the Community Ed. Office at:  322-2433.  No one under 16 will be permitted to test.  Testing times for age waiver students  will be scheduled after completion of all requirements with the ABE Center and notification of State GED approval.

*GED CLASSES: offered on Monday and Wednesdays as scheduled with instructor.  Before testing for the GED, you must spend a minimum of 12 hours in GED Instruction. Classes are located in the Community Ed. Office-1150 Pine Street: (The Old Jr. High Building.)  Class Instructor:  Glenda Eckerle.  Tutors will be scheduled by demand.
Pre-Registration: Before attending an ABE/GED class students must register at the Community Education Office located a 1150 Pine Street.  After completing a registration form each student must complete the TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education)  This test takes 3 hours but can be broken up into one hour segments.  Taking the TABE will help your instructor know what areas you willl need to study to be successful in your GED testing.  There is no fee required for taking the TABE.

ESL (English as a Second Language) CLASSES: Designed especially for beginning speakers of english.  Students will develop survival language skills, including listening, speaking, reading and writing.  Classes are scheduled by demand.  Students must fill out all registration forms and complete BEST testing.  Citizenship classes to pass your citizenship test are also available.

Assessment testing for workforce readiness in  applied math, applied technology, locating and reading information. 
The Work Key Exam is a job skills assessment tool designed by ACT to measure "real world" skills that employers
believe are crucial to job sucess.
